1. NEVER EVER TOLERATE EVIL:
The first life lesson from Lord Shiva is that you must never tolerate any evil which is taking place with or around you. Evil must never be tolerated whatever the consequences. Standing by and doing nothing while an evil deed/sin is being committed is as bad as committing the evil deed/sin itself.
2. SELF CONTROL:
Lord Shiva’s meditative pose symbolises the attainment of the power of self-control. Mind always wanders from one place to another and because of this habit we fall prey to many negative emotions like lusting for a woman, crimes, hatred, and many other ‘Tamsic’ practices. The solution to this is meditation. Meditation helps in calming an unstable mind and helps the person think more clearly. Therefore one should practice meditation in order to calm and clear the mind of negative thoughts and emotions.
3. DETACHMENT:
The third life lesson from the life of Lord Shiva is the practice of detachment. The root cause of all our misery and sadness is the attachment to the material things that the human mind tends to cling on in spite of the sorrows it brings with itself. The practice of detachment also helps to make your decisions more precise and clear without attachment to a material thing.
4. EVERYTHING IS TEMPORARY:
The fourth lesson to learn from Lord Shiva is that everything is temporary in this world. Anything which comes into this world has to finish one day and we have to learn to move on from them. Clinging on to the past does more harm than good. We tend to blame god and curse him if something is taken away from us. But what we do not realise is that god has a better plan for us and we should trust him even in our lowest phases.
5. CONTROL OF ONE’S EGO:
The fifth lesson from Lord Shiva is the a person must control his/her ego and should not brag about the things that he has. Ego is forever known to destroy the lives of persons. Lord Shiva’s weapon Trishul signifies the control of ego. A person should never let his emotions take over him or otherwise he would face terrible consequences. Take the example of Prajapati Daksh. His ego was the reason for Sati’s immolation and his death by the hands of Veerbhadra, a form of Maharudra/ Lord Shiva.
